Pawnee Braves with Pask Air Service.

Bryan Smith has also provided these pics of the Piper PA-36 Pawnee Braves as used by Pask Air Service in the late 70's and early 80's.
ZK-EIA (c/n 36-7760009) was a PA-36-300 Pawnee Brave and was leased for a short period.
Here it is at Waihou, northwest of Hasting. Bryan commented that you could certainly notice the difference in power (compared with the -375).
Airwork sold ZK-EIA to Marty Herbert of Napier (Astro Air) in August of 1983. It then moved to Hallett Griffin of Kairanga Aviation from 05-07-1984 and it was exported to Field Air Colac of Ballarat, Victoria and became VH-FEX on 12-11-1984.
This Brave was listed with Airwork (NZ) Ltd of Ardmore on 09-07-1978. It was leased to Pask Air Services for a while then headed down south.
These two pics show ZK-EIG (c/n 36-7802009) the PA-36-375 Pawnee Brave being worked at Putorino North of Napier.
Below. Taking off fully loaded from one of the shorter strips at Rissington.
All in a days work. A broken throttle cable on landing just north of Hastings.
Time for a brew.

At the Fernhill strip a few miles out from Hastings.
Back with Airwork it was damaged at Winchester on 27-08-1982 and then reduced to spares. Its NZ registration was cancelled on 09-8-1984 and it went over to Australia and was rebuilt to VH-XAV for Blanchs Holdings at Ingham, Queensland on 28-08-1990.

ZK-EIH was c/n 36-7802029.
It was first listed to Airwork on 31-08-1978 and to Pask Air Services at Hastings on 03-11-1978.
Below it is being worked from the Puketitira strip northwest of Hastings by Will Slack
It was destroyed in a hangar fire at Rotorua on 31-03-1981, along with the Air Central Cessna 337 ZK-DAQ, the Piper Cub ZK-BYW from Te Kumi Station, and the John Galpin Tiger Moth ZK-BFG.

  1. Thanks for the photos Brian. Why didn't these a/c have a longer life in NZ? Was it because the tailwheels weren't strong enough for our strips?

  2. Thank you for sharing and for this nice information. I really appreciate your work, keep it up.
