Back when I was a lad.

Above we see part of the Douglas DC-3 ZK-AQS (c/n 32695/15947) taken at Taieri sometime prior to April of 1961. AQS was withdrawn in late January 1966 and headed away to Taiwan.
On 31-03-1962 I was a passenger on a Douglas DC-3 from Taieri to Wellington. I remember being fascinated by the drops of oils trickling back from rivet to rivet across the top of the wing.

On 24-12-1963 I headed home for Christmas and whilst resting over in Christchurch I managed to get a shot of ZK-AOI (c/n 34226/16966). AOI was withdrawn from airline ops on 19-07-1966 and was sold to James Aviation Ltd. It was converted for ag ops but was lost in the Ure River, Inland Kaikoura Ranges on 23-02-1973.
Below is ZK-APB (c/n 32693/15945) It was withdrawn from airline service mid 1965 and also went to the ag role with Airland and Fieldair followed by a spell as a freighter. By about 2000 it was parted out and part of it was used in a café in Miramar, Wellington.
Just last month the nose section was noted for sale on trade Me.
I use to hang around the Wellington Aero Club about this time period - and managed to get a shot of the Percival P44 Proctor 5 ZK-APH (c/n Ae 126).
This one is dated 13-12-1963 which places it in the period when it was operated by Rolvin Airways Ltd of Palmerston North.
I managed to keep the undercarriage on all of these shots.
